Bronco History |
The Brentwood Baseball Club added two youth teams to it's ranks in 2007, see the BBF announcement from April 2007. The Bucks Bronco team for 10-13 year olds and the Bucks Pony team for the older 14-16 year olds.
2007
In it's inaugural season there was a lot of commitment and enthusiasm both from players and parents of the Bucks Bronco team,
the players held their heads high and gave a great account of themselves as individuals and as a team with a great team spirit and showing signs of team work with our more experienced player helping out new players learn the game.
Sadly the large number of rookies in the roster playing against more experienced and stronger teams, meant that most games were an uphill struggle with the highlights being victory over the Lynxes, close games against the Stealers and a superb effort against Bracknell who would win the divisional title. A highlight of the season being the annual 'Warley Shield', a parents vs kids exhibition, which was a great success with everyone enjoying the Home Run Derby and game. - See the 2007 Bronco Schedule & Standings
2008
There was a buzz around the Bronco's roster going into 2008, with a number of enthusiastic
rookies taking their place alongside the sophomores who helped the club cut it's teeth in the previous year. The season got off to the most difficult of starts with a visit to the previous seasons champions, Bracknell, an expected defeat followed but there was plenty of positives taken from game along with a double figure run tally. The Broncos home opener saw the Sluggers visiting Warley Field, and leaving with another victory, however this was followed a week later by the sister London Mets team, the Stealers, who were clinically despatched 9-4 in 4 innings. The victory kicked the Broncos season into life, a doubleheader against Bracknell was swept, the importance of which was obvious come the end of the season, Windsor visited Brentwood for the first time and were soon wishing they hadn't 37 runs over the two games put the Bucks on a 5 game winning streak.
Three split series followed and by the time the Lynxes came into view the Broncos were above .500. two forfeited victories and two convincing wins left the
Broncos with the postseason on the horizon. The final day of the season saw the Bucks travelling to Bracknell, who's record of 11-8 meant that they had to beat the Bucks (12-7) to stand any chance of beating the Bucks to the runners-up spot in the division. Unfortunately for the Bucks, Bracknell's bats were bigger and they ended the regular season with a disappointing 29-9 defeat. The result left both side with the same record meaning that a coin toss would decide which club would advance to the National Baseball Championships, thankfully the Bucks were the winner and travelled to Cumbria for the Final 4.
The Semi-Final saw the Bucks facing the hosts of the NBC, Cartmel Valley, who had completed an unbeaten season in the Northern division. In a game which could have gone either way was won by the home side 17-6. The following day the Bucks put the disappointment of the semi-final behind to face the Halton Polecats in the Third place playoff, The Bucks got off to a good start putting up a 4 runs on the board in the 1st inning and then shutting out the Polecats for 5 innings, giving up 3 runs in the game and twice getting out of a bases loaded jam, Halton left 18 men on base. The Bucks took Third Place by a score of 8-3. The 'Warley Shield' again proved to be a big hit as the kids once again put on a great show to teach their elders a thing or two. - See the 2008 Bronco Schedule & Standings
2009
2009 saw the Broncos hoping to better their 3rd place from the previous year, significantly their fiercest rivals to the postseason over the previous seasons, the Bracknell Tornadoes, would not take part in the season, in the Bronco division they would face the London Mets Broncos, an
amalgamation of the Stealers and the Sluggers and the Kent Bobcats, they were also scheduled to face the Windsor Bears u13s but just as the new season opened they withdrew.
As the season panned out a pattern emerged, the Bucks would lose a double header against the Mets one week, then beat the Bobcats the next, this continued throughout the season until the final games. The newly merged Mets visited Warley Field to open the season and left with the spoils after 9-2 and 14-11 wins. The Bobcats were next up and were despatched 10-8 and 14-7. Going into the last doubleheader, at the Mets the Bucks were .500 at 6-6, and any hopes of postseason action were long gone. A first game narrow 5-4 defeat saw the Broncos facing a losing record, however a fantastic performance in the second game and a well deserved 10-4 victory not only spoiled the pattern of wins and defeats but saw the Bucks finishing the season with an even 7-7 record. - See the 2009 Bronco Schedule & Standings
